It seems pretty crazy to do a blog trends post for 2016 only half way into 2015. I mean, it's only August, right? When we get to the half way point in the year, we usually look back at the goals we set ourselves in January, and ask ourselves whether we have achieved what we wanted for our online spaces. If not, then why? But now is also a great time to look to the future and see what changes are being made and how online spaces are evolving, right this very moment! Personally I think the biggest changes with blogs and online spaces are being made right now and this post will explain the trends that are emerging with blogging and being creative for your online space. Everything with the online world shifts and changes, and trends emerge - some fall flat but others transform what we thought we knew. Of course, you don't have to change your blog to fit to these trends, but if you feel like your space is lacking something and could even do with revitalising, then this post is for you. So here's five blog trend predictions for 2016 it's worth taking notice of.

1. MARKETING OTHER PEOPLE'S PRODUCTS IS DECREASING AND MAKING YOUR OWN PRODUCTS IS BECOMING MORE POPULAR

I've really starting noticing this year that more and more blogs are changing. Blogs are getting rid of ads on their sidebar and affiliate links in their content that market products for different companies. Some blogs have even completely cut out sponsored content posts. Instead of getting a small payment for pay-per-click or a one off sponsorship fee from their site to market other companies products, bloggers are going it alone and creating their own products to sell to their readers, which I personally think is amazing! Bloggers are really thinking outside the box with the products they are creating to sell to their readers - ranging from digital products like e-books, e-courses and one-to-one blog coaching sessions to physical products like blog diaries and productivity planners. Having your own products is a much more sustainable and authentic way to monetise your blog. The possibilities are endless for what you can create, and it further establishes your brand as a valuable resource for visitors.

2. BLOGGERS WILL BE LESS LIKE WRITERS AND MORE LIKE BUSINESS OWNERS

I mean take Regina Anaejionou of ByRegina - this lady is the pioneer of business blogging. You might have seen her income reports that show us this girl is making some serious money through her blog. Bloggers don't just blog anymore, they speak at conferences, they sell their own digital products and they teach classes. Because these creatives want to make money, they implement techniques that big businesses use - they take content marketing seriously, they invest in creating a professional website and they have multiple streams of income (and sometimes have a team behind them too!). Their social media is one place that reflects the business-like approach they're taking. If you look at many bloggers' Twitter or Instagram accounts, you'll find a few dotted personal updates here and there, but ultimately their social media streams are an extension of their brand - taking every opportunity to share something that provides further value to their potential visitors, consumers and clients. Scrolling through bloggers social media accounts is in some ways like looking at huge, million dollar companies social media accounts, they share the same values and professionalism whether they're answering a query, dealing with a complaint or posting a piece of content.
